Keeping The Luster and Integrity of Wood Flooring

Maintaining Your Hardwood Floors

  1. Vacuum, sweep or dust your floor at least once a week, do not use a vacuum with a beater bar or hard head, dirt and grit act like sandpaper to your floors.
  2. Regularly clean your floors with Bruce Dura- Luster No-Wax Floor cleaner or similar cleaner designed specifically for hardwood flooring and a swivel mop with a terry cloth mop cover. Never wax a urethane finished floor.
  3. Never clean or wet mop your floors with water and never use a “swifter wet jet” or similar wet mop device. Excess liquid may damage the fibers of the wood.
  4. Area rugs and doormats are recommended to keep dirt and moisture away from your floors. Rugs should be made of a breathable material without solid rubber or foam backing that trap moisture and discolor. To prevent slipping use an approved vinyl rug underlayment.
  5. Protect the surface from dents and abrasions from by using furniture leg protector pads and never slide heavy furniture across your floors, instead lay a solid protective covering such as a ¼” sheet of plywood or masonite and gently “walk” the item across the floor. Carpet and cardboard are not adequate to protect from surface compression scratches. For further information
